How Amazon seller fees work in 2026
Every Amazon.com sale pays a referral fee: a percentage of the total price the buyer pays (item, shipping and gift wrap, not sales tax), 15% in most categories, with a $0.30 minimum in most categories. Books, music, video and video games add a $1.80 closing fee. On top of that you pay for your selling plan: Professional is $39.99 a month and Individual is $0.99 per unit sold, so Professional is cheaper once you sell more than 40 units a month.
2026 FBA fulfillment fees
If Amazon ships the order (FBA), you also pay a fulfillment fee per unit. It depends on the size tier (small standard, large standard, small bulky, large bulky, extra-large), the shipping weight (for most tiers the greater of unit weight and dimensional weight, which is length × width × height ÷ 139), and the price band: under $10, $10 to $50, or over $50. From Oct 15, 2026 to Jan 14, 2027 higher holiday-peak rates apply. Since April 17, 2026 Amazon adds a 3.5% fuel and logistics-related surcharge to the fulfillment fee.
Monthly storage
FBA storage is charged per cubic foot of the packaged unit: $0.78 for standard-size items and $0.56 for oversize from January to September, rising to $2.40 and $1.40 from October to December. Dangerous goods cost more. Sellers with high storage utilization can also pay a storage utilization surcharge, which this calculator does not include.
A worked example
A $24.99 kitchen product, 10 × 6 × 3 inches and 1.2 lb, sold in October. Its dimensional weight is 180 ÷ 139 = 1.29 lb, so it ships as large standard at 1.29 lb: $5.73 at peak rates, plus a $0.20 surcharge. The referral fee is 15% = $3.75, and one month of October storage is 0.104 ft³ × $2.40 = $0.25. Amazon takes $9.93, about 40%. After a $6 product cost and $0.50 to ship it to Amazon, you keep $8.56.
What this calculator leaves out
The low-inventory-level fee, inbound placement fees, returns processing, the storage utilization and aged inventory surcharges, removal and disposal, and the Overmax handling fee are not included, because they depend on your whole account rather than one unit. Your Transaction report shows all of them, and the ShopTrueProfit dashboard counts every one when you import it with the marketplace set to Amazon.
